BLUE GOLD for Forester Estate 2013 Chardonnay (not yet released) – Sydney International Wine Competition 2015

GOLD for Forester Estate 2011 Yelverton Reserve Cabernet (not yet released) – Margaret River Wine Show 2014

95 Points for Forester Estate 2014 Sauvignon Blanc – James Halliday
“The usual Forester technique, hand-picked in the early morning and processed immediately, 40% with cultured yeast in stainless steel, the balance fermented in used French barriques, 33% of the blend with wild yeast. It has great tactile qualities, with the grass, green pea and nettle flavours of prior vintages, and the same fresh, crisp finish.”

93 Points for Forester Estate 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon – Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2015
“Classic cabernet here. Opens with deep blackcurrant and edgy black olive aromas circling some deeper meaty characters. Little bay leaf adds an exotic touch. Combines the power of cabernet with a degree of elegance and refinement. The fine oak and ripe tannin management has provided such an ideal structure to support the palate through to the finish. Seamless and smooth in every respect.”

96 Points – Forester estate 2012 Chardonnay (Plus Best of Chardonnay 2015 List)
“Cold fruit was crushed and pressed, most to stainless steel for initiation of ferment, the rest direct to barrel, some wild-fermented in new and used French barriques once fermentation commenced. This attention to detail has resulted in a wine of exceptional length and intensity to its tangy fruit profile. Drink by 2021.”

96 Points – Forester Estate 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon
“A blend of 92% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc, and 2% each of petit verdot and malbec; open-fermented and macerated for between 7 and 30 days, then matured for 22 months in french oak (33% new). This is a very distinguished cabernet; while it is full of cassis fruit, it has the precision, bordering on rectitude, of high quality cabernet. Drink by 2031.”

96 Points – Forester Estate 2011 Cabernet Merlot (Plus selected as a Special Value Wine)
(Plus Best of Cabernet and Family 2015 List)
“A 48/41/6/5% blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot fermented in French oak (15% new), with a bright, clear colour, the bouquet fragrant, the medium-bodied, juicy palate with bright red and black fruits, and sustained by fine tannins. An absolutely lovely wine. Drink by 2021”

95 Points – Forester Estate 2013 Sauvignon Blanc (Plus selected as a Special Value Wine)
(Plus Best of Sauvignon Blanc 2015 List)
“Hand-picked estate-grown Home Block grapes were cooled overnight; 43% cold-fermented in stainless steel using a yeast tailor-made for sauvignon blanc, the remainder fermented in used French barriques, 14% with wild yeast. Purity is the watchword for this wine, its green pea, grass and nettle flavours largely hiding an undertow of tropical notes, the package accelerating on the powerful finish. Drink by 2015”

95 Points – Forester Estate 2011 Home Block Shiraz
“Hand-picked from a 0.7ha block, destemmed, then into open fermenters with heading down boards for 7 days, thence to French oak (part new) for 20 months, some on lees. Bright crimson-purple; a sure-footed, classy shiraz with juicy red and black fruits providing half the action, the other half by quality tannins and integrated oak. The modest alcohol is a pleasure to deal with. Drink by 2031.”

94 Points – Forester Estate 2013 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (Plus selected as a Special Value Wine)
“Multiple layers of flavour have resulted from cold settling of clear juice, stainless steel-fermented in separate parcels with separate yeasts, then blended with a small proportion of barrel-fermented semillon and sauvignon blanc, adding texture to the already full envelope. Drink by 2015.”

Nothing snooty about this wine

93++ points for our Chardonnay 2012

“Forester has long been a solid provider of high quality Margaret River wine at prices much more modest than many of their snooty neighbours. This racy Chardonnay is not amongst their cheapest offerings, but others would charge much more for one of this class. It’s not fat like the old dead Rosemounts that made people reach for the lemon juice, nor is it lean and skinny like the current cheapo Chablis that the somms of Sydney are rubbing on gullets with great success. Rather, this is a distinguished and accomplished wine of modest form. Grown on 34 year-old Mendoza clone vines (a Casa Blanco favourite), and made using techniques that fit neatly between those Rosemount (woody; jammy) and Chablis (steely; lean) extremes, it’s a lovely thing from first sniff to its last lingering ooze. It has that languid, come-hither, slightly fatty air of grilled cashews, fitting neatly with its flashy vanillinoids, which are almost on the jackfruit level. These characters give the wine its lovely vanilla crême texture, which is comforting and reassuring. Its flavour is somewhere in the realm of soft nougat and citrus rind; its finish long, gentle and appetising. It makes me yearn for an Amalfi saltimbocca, or the char-grilled garfish at that same wonderful sanctum.”
